I'll have a Maker's Mark - neat

I had to add a big thank you on my blog to my wonderful mom for buying me my “Mary” wig. I’m so happy to have it because it makes me feel the most like me. It was an expensive wig but it’s so freaking nice to get to go out and sort of look like me. I moved back here with her from campus because of the surgery and the chemotherapy. She has been so patient with me and done such a great job as my nurse and cancer secretary (lol). Sometimes I get so tired and my head hurts so much that I get grouchy and act like a pain in the ass. I’m lucky to be here in such good hands. I imagine it would be a lot tougher to stay in good spirits if I didn’t have so many family members and friends that care so much about me.

My mom and I actually went to the restaurant I work at last night to eat. I got a nice voicemail from one of my managers about how much everyone misses me there and when I called back and talked to my other manager, he really wanted me to come to visit yesterday because all the managers would be there and wanted to see me. I only saw 3 of my managers because we were too late to see them all but I got to see a lot of friends. And Jessica got to wait on us!! In case you haven’t read the early blog posts, she raised a bunch of money for me at work and had cancer support bracelets made for me that say “There’s something about Mary.” I LOVE THAT GIRL! A true friend! And now my mom loves her too, lol! My manager was super sweet and took care of our bill, which was awesome. I should add that I had one white Russian (I think its ok??) and felt super tipsy because I haven’t been drinking in so long. This might not be a super exciting paragraph for people that knows nothing about my work life but it felt great to go out there and see everyone wearing my “There’s something about Mary” bracelets. :-)

I’m looking at theknot.com right now and feeling a big overwhelmed. Even planning a pretend wedding that is two years away and has an unlimited budget can be a bit stressful.

This is a maybe for the bride’s wedding cake:

I think мой лучшая половина (my better half) might like this for his groom’s cake since he likes Futurama:

I’m trying to learn a bit more about Russian weddings here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_wedding but I don’t know how accurate the info is. I’m not sure how Russian or how American the wedding will be. I want to make my new свекровь (mother-in-law) happy! Maybe since I have an unlimited budget, I should hire a pretend wedding planner.

A joke my dad emailed me!:

A real woman is a man's best friend.
She will never stand him up and never let him down.
She will reassure him when he feels insecure and comfort him after a bad day.
She will inspire him to do things he never thought he could do; to live without fear and forget regret.
She will enable him to express his deepest emotions and give in to his most intimate desires.
She will make sure he always feels as though he's the most handsome man in the room and will enable him to be the most confident, sexy, seductive and invincible.
No wait...Sorry. I'm thinking of whiskey. It's whiskey that does all that stuff. Never mind…

  1. Your family and support circle are amazing and makes me happy to think about. I say again, go Team Mary!! It's so great to see. Gives renewed faith in humanity.

White russian = tastiest drink ever. Good choice.

I'm officially jealous of your fake wedding if you go with that Futurama cake. I might have to fake crash said wedding. Since money isn't an issue, have the surviving members of Fleetwood Mac perform!

  2. Ha, I was going to jokingly suggest a Viking Wedding as a compromise, but it turns out something like 80% of modern American Wedding tradition comes from that anyway (carrying over the threshold, etc.). All that's lacking is an exchange of weapons and a month's supply of mead (the drinking of which is where the term "honey moon" comes from, as it was the time during which the newlyweds would drink that month's supply of honey-based alcohol).

The best part of the Viking marriage tradition was that the groom had to be really sure the wife-to-be actually wanted to be his wife, or suffer the continual risk of loss of life/limb for the term of the marriage because it was totally okay for the wife to kill her husband if she was unhappy with the marriage. >:D
